Bowness-on-Windermere, and the lake district in general, is a top tourist hotspot in the UK and one of the most scenic places in the country. There are plenty of things to do here to fill a weekend away, especially if you like walking. Here are just a few things that you can do whilst you’re here!
Go for a walk in the Lakes
From the gentle strolls to the highest mountain the England, there are walks of varying toughness and length so that everyone can enjoy the amazing views of the Lake district.
We decided to conquer the highest, Scafell Pike, and thanks to the route we took, some others along the way… We took the open topped bus to Ambleside and then another to Old Dungeon Ghyll, where we then started our walk.
Hire a row boat
See Windermere from a different point of view by taking a boat out on the lake. Surprisingly, it’s actually quite hard work!
Have a little tipple!
Well it would be rude not to! All of that time spent walking around means that a pint is well deserved.
Eat, eat and eat some more!
Equally important as the point above, eating your weight in delicious food is also a must! Even if it is in England, my weekend away to the lakes was technically a holiday, so it’s necessary to relax and recuperate. We had an amazing pasty from a shop in the center of Bowness which I would fully recommend for a filling lunch.
Go for a sunset cruise
Spend an evening learning about the lake and taking in the views as the sun goes down.
Visit Peter Rabbit
Visit the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness, which is an interactive exhibit that tells the story of Potter’s writing and her importance to Lakeland conservation.
Just go for a stroll
Take the time to relax and wander around the quaint streets, you never know what you’ll come across
