Ah Firenze! The Tuscan city renowned for it’s wealth of famous art and often known as the ‘cradle of the renaissance’!  I absolutely loved my time in Florence, so here are my top ten things to do if you ever get a chance to visit!

1. Il Duomo

The most well-known sight in Florence is of the cathedral, situated in the heart of the city. You really can’t miss it, and it’s absolutely exquisite.

2. Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace

Escape the bustle of the city and take a walk through these beautiful gardens. You can also get some pretty good views of the city from the top of the gardens, providing perfect photo opportunities!

3. Try the Local Cuisine

Eat like a local and try some of the dishes native to Florence. Most notably perhaps is the Bistecca Fiorentina. Although not something that I would personally eat, my boyfriend sang its praises. I did try a Tuscan soup though which was made with beans and was absolutely delicious! Another local dish is Cinghiale, otherwise known as wild boar, which is another Tuscan delicacy.

Believe it or not, Florence has a wealth of designer and high street shops! Definitely worth an afternoon perusing the streets! The city is also well known for its leather, so if that’s your thing then get spending!

5. Basilica di Santa Maria Novella

Florence is home to a number of churches additional to the gigantic one in the centre! One of my favourites was the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella which we found one day by accident near the main train station.

‘Old Bridge’ is a sight that cannot be missed when in Florence and is absolutely stunning to behold. Don’t miss the opportunity to walk across to the other side and marvel at the jewellery shops which line it.

9. Take a stroll…

One of my favourite things to do in Florence is just to walk amongst the streets, get a little bit lost and just soak up the atmosphere. You’re sure to stumble across a quaint little church or square, or alternatively a gelato shop (yum)

10. Finally, don’t forget to visit the boar!

Located to the side of the New Market is a bronze statue of boar, locally known as Il Porcellino! It is believed that if you rub his snout and put a coin in his mouth, and the coin falls into the grate below, that you will have good luck and return to Florence!
