One of the things that I truly believe is worth spending money on is travel, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t panic a little when I splurge it all my savings in one go. However, I really truly believe that there is no better time than the present to just book your next getaway and make it work. And what better time than in your twenties when you’re still young enough to be (almost) carefree! These are some reasons that will convince you to stop worrying about what could happen and just go.
Experiences are better than material goods
Travelling and gaining new experiences often makes you grow as a person, and are something that you can carry around with you always, unlike that new bag that will go out of fashion in a few months. It will also make you appreciate what material possessions you do have when you’re away and missing your home comforts.
It’s not as expensive as you think
If you’re careful, travel can be super cheap. Use sites like skyscanner to get the cheapest flights, and travel with hand luggage to reduce the price further. Take advantage of student and young people’s discounts and this will save you tonnes! Its also likely that you’re more willing to stay in cheap hostels now the you will be in a few years time, plus hostels are a great place to meet new people.
Learn about the world
As cliche as it sounds, travel really does broaden the mind. Seeing new places and experiences new cultures will give you a better understanding of the world we live in and make you appreciate what you have at home. It will make you able to empathize more in everyday life and in general, raise your awareness of whats around you.
It will make you independent
Travel makes you learn to look after yourself and work your way out of situations without having to rely on others. This is a life skill that everybody has to learn eventually. When you come back and realize that actually you can do things solo, your confidence will skyrocket.
Nothing big will hold you back
The likelihood is is that at the moment you don’t have any big things to consider, such as a mortgage or children, so you have the freedom to just up and go. This does not mean to say that when you do have other commitments you can’t travel, just that it will be easier now when you only have to consider yourself, so take the chance while you can.
Stories to share
Whether its a catch up with your friends or telling stories to your kids in the future, your adventures will give you plenty to talk about. It is likely that your experiences will relate to other events in your life and take you back to you time travelling. Go on, make some memories.
Life is short
Just go. You never know there may not be another time when you are able to. Take a chance and live in moment (cheesy or what). What have you got to lose?
So what are your thoughts? Obviously travel isn’t limited to a certain age range, but so many young people now are more concerned with growing up and getting a career that they forget to experience the world around them and actually live.
